International Truck and Engine Corp. is officially taking the wraps off its new MaxxForce line of diesel engines for model-year 2008 medium- and heavy-duty trucks and buses. The 11- and 13-liter engine classes were built in partnership with German truck manufacturer MAN.

Jack Allen, president of International’s engine group, said the new engine line includes seven models built around three core goals: provide clean air with improved performance; never sacrifice reliability or durability; and preserve diesel’s fuel economy advantage.

On the low end of the MaxxForce spectrum is the MaxxForce 5, a 4.5-liter 200-hp. V-6 producing 440 lb.-ft. of torque for Class 4-5 trucks, and the MaxxForce 7, a 6.4-liter 200- to 230-hp. V-8 turbo cranking out 560-620 lb.-ft. of torque for Class 5-7 trucks and school buses. A 300-plus hp. rating of the MaxxForce 7 will be offered in the fall of 2007, Allen said.

Next is the MaxxForce DT, built on International’s DT 466 platform, offering 210- to 300-hp. and 520-860 lb.-ft. of torque for Class 6-8 trucks. The MaxxForce 9, built on International’s I-6 design, produces 300-330 hp. and 800-950 lb.-ft. of torque for Class 7-8 trucks.

The MaxxForce 10, also built on I-6 architecture, features a larger EGR system for Class 8 trucks and offers 310-350 hp. and 1,050-1,150 lb.ft. of torque.

Technical details of the 11-liter MaxxForce 11 and 13-liter MaxxForce 13 will be kept under wraps until their production launch in the fall of 2007.
