Toyota Motor Sales is conducting a voluntary safety recall of about 51,000 model year 2011 Tundra pickup trucks for potential issues with the vehicle’s rear drive shaft.
In an estimated 0.05% of those vehicles, the rear drive shaft may include a slip yoke that could break due to improper casting during the foundry process, Toyota officials said.
The company added that it’s aware of one drive shaft slip yoke failure in a customer-owned vehicle, but that no reports of accidents or injuries have been reported associated with this defect. No other Lexus or Toyota vehicles are involved in this recall.
