Volvo Trucks North America (VTNA) has called EPA’s guidance on selective catalytic reduction (SCR) “an important step” to readying this technology to meet the upcoming EPA 2010 emissions standard for diesel engines.

Read EPA warms up to SCR solution.

“We are convinced that SCR is the best choice for continuing to dramatically reduce diesel engine emissions in 2010, while delivering optimal performance and fuel efficiency for our customers,” said VTNA president & CEO Peter Karlsten. “EPA has provided an important guide for the many stakeholders working to address the urea infrastructure and other issues necessary to bring this clean diesel technology to the North American market.”

Volvo Group, parent company of VTNA, already offers trucks with SCR-equipped trucks in Europe. Volvo Group’s SCR experience includes more than 23 million test miles, and 40,000 SCR-equipped production vehicles to meet Euro 4 emission standards that took effect in October. In the U.S., VTNA has logged six million test miles with SCR systems on customer trucks.
