A vehicle stability enhancement system (VSES) developed by General Motors will become standard equipment for the GMC Savana and Chevrolet Express 3500 135-in. wheelbase passenger vans in the 2005 model year.

The system, called StabiliTrak, is already standard on the 15-passenger 155-in. wheelbase van models, as well as a number of GM full-size SUVs.

The advanced stability system integrates ABS, dynamic brake proportioning, traction control and yaw stability control to help drivers negotiate difficult conditions such as rain, snow, ice and gravel.

Combining electronic controls and sensors, it detects wheel skid, actual vehicle direction and steering-wheel angle, automatically controlling both throttle and brakes to help keep a vehicle on course.

The 2005 12-passenger vans with StabiliTrak will be available starting in October.
