BorgWarner’s Cool Logic variable speed fan drives are now standard equipment on Mack Granite, Titan and Pinnacle models.

The fan drives have shown up to a 3% improvement in fuel economy in over four million miles of testing, BorgWarner said, when compared to traditional fan drives.

The fan drives continuously check engine control modules to electronically vary fan speed for consistent, precise temperature control that adjusts to load and road grades. A wet-friction clutch design reduces engine drag, delivers more horsepower and greater fuel economy than traditional on/off or two-speed clutch systems, BorgWarner said.

In addition to fuel savings, Cool Logic fan drives extend the life of the entire cooling system, including the radiator and charge air cooler, and decrease wear on serpentine belt components, according to the company.
