Peterson Manufacturing has released a new Piranha LED Smart Lamp that uses only ten diodes, yet maintains most of the same characteristics of its other models, according to the company.

The new 4 in. round model, which combines strobing LEDs and automatic turn signal override functions, are SAE J845 class two compliant and DOT-approved with ultra-rugged wiring options, the company said. It is easily installed on new vehicles as well as fully compatible for all models as a retrofit option.

Like its Smart Lamp counterparts, the 10-diode model features a flash strobe that can be manually or automatically configured to flash when the vehicle is in reverse. The lamp comes in two series, the 4344 with an AMP-compatible main port plus hardwired Packard hardshell connector for sync wire connection, and the 8344 version, which accepts AMP SuperSeal 1.5 connectors. Both models fit standard 4 in. mounting grommets and offer 9-32 volt operating range compatible with both 12- and 24-volt systems.

“The beauty of our Smart Lamp system is simplicity,” said Mark Assenmacher, director of marketing. “It’s truly an integrated, hassle-free solution for refuse, maintenance and service vehicles –– rugged, more compatible and easier to install than any other strobe system on the market.”
