Detroit Diesel Corp. (DDC) recently rolled the 100,000th engine off its DD Platform assembly line in Redford, MI. The heavy-duty truck engine line encompasses the DD13, DD15 and DD16 models. Developed by DDC's parent company Daimler AG with input from its truck groups in the U.S., Germany and Japan, the powerplants boast more than 90% globally shared parts. The DD platform, launched back in '07, represented a $1.5 billion investment for the Germany-based OEM.

“Our DD Platform was an important step in our strategy of having a globally coordinated engine development and production network,” said Henning Oeltjenbruns, DDC's plant manager. “It resulted in enhanced technologies and operating efficiencies that continue to benefit our customers.”
