Mobile Awareness has released a wireless parking sensor system, the MA-WPSS-4M17, developed for long vehicles such as tractor trailers, utility vehicles and buses. Activated automatically when the reverse gear is engaged, the system is designed to alert the driver to objects behind the vehicle with both audible and visual indicators (LED display).

The waterproof sensors, which are said to work in all weather conditions, provide the location of an obstacle within four areas behind the vehicle, accurate to half an inch. The sensors and electronic control unit (ECU) can be installed with ten screws and two wires connected to the backing lights. The dash-mounted warning display unit (WDU) requires only a power and ground connection to complete the installation.

The system's truck and trailer exchange function enables a truck equipped with the WDU to detect the ECU/sensors located on more than one trailer. “The WDU can be matched with other ECU/sensors installed on additional trailers. It's as simple as holding the setting button when reverse gear is engaged to identify and connect with the new trailer,” says Gary Rothstein, president of Mobile Awareness.

Other features include the ability to adjust the furthest end location of the vehicle due to overhanging objects. In addition, the monitor displays all zones simultaneously in real-time and includes a wireless signal strength meter. www.mobileawareness.com
