A Cummins 6.7-liter Turbo Diesel will be a power option for ’07 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 models beginning January 2007, said the engine maker.

The Cummins Turbo Diesel will feature increased displacement over the 5.9-liter engine it will replace, as well as more horsepower (350 hp) and torque (650 lb.-ft.). The 6.7-liter engine also boasts improved combustion with the integration of Variable Geometry Turbocharging for air handling, next generation cooled EGR, upgraded high pressure common rail fuel system and improved integration of engine and vehicle systems, Cummins said.

The new engine will provide owners with the quietest engine in the heavy-duty diesel pickup truck market, Cummins said, and will enable “outstanding” towing capability and drivability.

The engine will also be durable, Cummins said, as its “life-to-overhaul” interval will be 350,000 miles.

Cummins added that the engine has been designed to operate on ultra-low sulfur diesel and B5 biodiesel. It will feature a new integrated exhaust brake option.
