    Truck-Lite recently rolled out a new feature for its Super 80 LED [light emitting diode] interior trailer lamp – an infrared [IR] motion sensor to automatically turn the trailer dome light on and off, thereby eliminating the need for a switch and helping trailer owners save money.

    “By adding an IR motion sensor to this application, we are providing a hands-off service to assist in the trailer operator’s daily routine,” said Jay Davenport, Truck-Lite’s national sales director.

    The Super 80’s IR sensor, which compares changes in heat coupled with motion, can sense movement up to 10 feet away from the lamp surface, he added. The lamp is designed to stay on through five minutes of inactivity before automatically shutting off, saving operators power consumption.

    “By taking our existing interior dome lamp and building in passive infrared technology, this essentially saves the trailer operator time and money,” added John Howells, Truck-Lite’s vp-sales. “In today’s economy, time is money and what we are offering allows the ease to load, unload and go without having to look back.”
