In a move that will strengthen its position as a supplier of active-safety technologies to truck fleets, Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC (Bendix CVS) has inked a deal to acquire “select assets” from Iteris, Inc. Included in the deal is Iteris’ SafetyDirect safety solution and its AutoVue lane-departure warning system.

“This move reinforces our commitment to actively pursue business opportunities and effective technologies that help improve highway safety, enhance vehicle operation, and help fleets manage and maintain operating cost margins,” said Joe McAleese, Bendix president & CEO. “It takes Bendix another step down our firmly established technology development road map and complements our global driver assistance strategy.

“North American fleets have been asking Bendix for safety data to further improve their return on investment in safety technology,” he continued. “[The Iteris] SafetyDirect is a solid solution for large and small fleets that have already invested in telematics capability.”

Once the transaction closes, expected prior to Aug. 31, Bendix and its parent firm Knorr-Bremse said the Iteris safety technologies and associated R&D and sales and service operations will be integrated into their electronics business units, which offer such safety technologies as the Bendix ESP electronic stability system, Wingman Advanced collision-mitigation technology and the SmarTire tire pressure monitoring system by Bendix CVS.

Iteris offers a broad range of Intelligent Transportation Systems and driver safety solutions to customers worldwide and is headquartered in Santa Ana, CA.

Elyria, OH-based Bendix CVS supplies active-safety technologies, air brake charging, and control systems and components under the Bendix brand name for medium- and heavy-duty trucks, tractors, trailers, buses, and other commercial vehicles throughout North America.
