Dana Corp. says its new Dana Spicer S170 series of single-reduction, single-drive axles offers the industry's broadest axle ratio coverage. The axles also boast high-capacity gearing and bearing systems to meet the requirements of today's higher horsepower, higher-torque engines. Specifically, said Dana, the S170 series is designed to perform in future drivetrains with ratings of up to 2,450 lb.-ft.

Dana Corp. says its new Dana Spicer S170 series of single-reduction, single-drive axles offers the industry's broadest axle ratio coverage. The axles also boast high-capacity gearing and bearing systems to meet the requirements of today's higher horsepower, higher-torque engines. Specifically, said Dana, the S170 series is “designed to perform in future drivetrains with ratings of up to 2,450 lb.-ft. of torque and up to 700 hp.

Dana says the S170 series brings added strength, improved vehicle performance and longevity via features such as axial power ribs, a built-in pinion cage and carrier, and a large wheel differential gearing.

According to Dana, thanks to “integral component design processes,” the new axles require fewer than half the components of competitive offerings, enabling them to provide increased robustness without the extra weight.

“For the fleet owner and driver, this means improved performance, lower maintenance and more quality time on the road,” said Patxi Garcia, Dana product manager. “Some models are more than 25 lb. lighter than competitive models in the same class.”

The S2-170 has a gross axle weight rating (GAWR) of 21,000 lb.; the S23-170 is rated at 23,000 lb.; and the S25-170 at 25,000 lb.

All S170 axles qualify for Dana's 250,000-mi. initial lube drain interval when used in linehaul service and matched with accepted components. The axles carry a standard 5-yr./750,000-mi. warranty for approved applications and with Dana-approved factory-filled synthetic lube.
