Recon cutting engine delivery times

Recon Automotive Remanufacturers has announced a new initiative aimed at increasing the availability of its most popular engines and reducing delivery times, while instituting a comprehensive program to hold down manufacturing costs to sustain what Recon calls its very competitive pricing structure.

To help meet these objectives, one of the key components of the program will be the establishment of a new warehousing and distribution facility in Texas. This location will supplement Recon’s existing centers in Philadelphia and Los Angeles to shorten delivery times to customers in the South Central and Central areas of the country. A site in Texas has been selected. Recon said it will announce the location as soon as leasing and staffing negotiations are complete. The facility will begin shipping engines this summer.

Meanwhile, following nine years of successful but limited production at its manufacturing plant in Aguascalientes, Mexico, Recon said it will be relocating production of many of its most popular engines to that facility. The company said it has been adding state-of-the-art machinery and training programs to this facility for utmost efficiency.

Recon noted it has also completed a comprehensive analysis of inventory and order fill rates, and is now taking steps to add inventory and speed availability of fast-moving engines. At the same time, overall inventories of slower-moving part numbers will be reduced. A newly created Rapid Response Team at Recon’s Philadelphia headquarters is being tasked with sourcing cores and providing finished remanufactured engines for any unusual or out-of-stock engine.
