A new gas-discharge emergency warning strobe lamp from Truck-Lite offers a cylindrical flash tube with all optics enclosed internally, leaving a smooth, more aerodynamic surface that’s easier to clean and maintain, said the company.
“Our engineering and marketing teams did a thorough study of emergency lighting to determine areas for improvement,” said Brad Van Riper, Trick-Lite’s vp-research and development. “They … developed lamps rugged enough for use on vehicles from fire apparatus to trash compactors while offering better operating economics to utility and municipal fleets.”
External parts for the new lamps are designed for durability and easy maintenance, he said, with bases powder-coated for long life and corrosion resistance. All circuitry is encapsulated for durability, with threaded domes that screw on and off to allow for rapid flash tube replacement. The new cylindrical design works with Truck-Lite’s advanced optics to concentrate light within the critical zone – five degrees above and below horizontal – for greatest effect, Van Riper explained.
The lamp is designed to operate from 10 to 30 volts – making it suitable for operation with both 12-volt and 24-volt vehicles – and will be initially released to market with just amber domes, with interchangeable red, blue, and clear domes to follow. It’s also photometrically compliant at 12.8 volts, meeting SAEJ1318 requirement, with all models covered by a one-year warranty on the light, he added.
