Ford has announced the recall of nearly 1.2 million heavy-duty trucks equipped with 7.3L engines due to the threat of an engine stall because of a malfunctioning camshaft position sensor.

1997 to 2003 model year Ford E-Series, Excursion, F-450 Super Duty, and F-550 Super Duty trucks are affected by the recall. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), dealers will inspect the sensor and replace it free of charge beginning around December 17th.

According to the Detroit Free Press, although this recall involves engines manufactured by Navistar, the problem is unrelated to previous problems Ford has had with Navistar-produced engines.

Customers may contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
