At a recent fleet demonstration event held by Pressure Systems International (PSI) and ArvinMeritor at PSI's San Antonio, TX, headquarters, the companies noted that the return on investment (ROI) for the Meritor Tire Inflation System (MTIS) can be as little as 8.3 months, according to recent fleet data. The purpose of MTIS is to automatically keep trailer tires properly inflated.

Frank Sonzala, executive vp, and Al Cohn, director of new market development and engineering support, presented the features of MTIS and its new ThermAlert wheel-end heat sensing technology to the participating fleets. Benefits included reduced cost per mile for tire maintenance, increased fuel economy and improved safety and security, they said.

Sonzala noted that PSI rolled out the first version of MTIS 12 years ago and it's now protecting nearly 2-million tires against under-inflation.
