Last TopKick rolls

Unable to find a buyer for its truck business, General Motors shut down its final medium-duty production line on July 31 when a GMC TopKick was driven off the Flint Truck Assembly Plant line. GM had moved assembly of the medium-duty TopKick and its Chevrolet twin Kodiak from Janesville, WI, to Flint, MI, in 2002.

The plant will continue building GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado heavy-duty pickups.

A deal to sell the GM medium-duty business to Navistar fell through last year. Although there were reports that Isuzu Motors was interested in the business, no formal offer materialized, and GM announced it would cease production this summer.
