The Volvo Group recently built its 300,000th heavy-duty diesel engine — a 500 hp. D13 model assembled at the Volvo Powertrain plant in Hagerstown, MD. It subsequently was placed in a new Volvo VN780 chassis and delivered to Abilene Motor Express of Richmond, VA.

Volvo began building its 13-liter engine in Skövde, Sweden, back in 2005. Today, these engines are also assembled in Curitiba, Brazil, as well as at Hagerstown.

“This is a significant global occasion that solidifies the longevity and reliability of the engines powering Volvo Group products throughout the world,” said Carlos Hungria, senior vice president & COO of Volvo Powertrain.
