At the Technology & Maintenance Council annual meeting this week in Tampa, Doran Manufacturing, unveiled improvements to its Doran 360 tire-pressure monitoring system. These include a new valve-stem mounted sensor that allows fleets to receive digital tire pressure and temperature data using Doran's handheld SmartLink tool.

With this new feature, Doran said its SmartLink tool can be used to transmit a low-frequency signal that will activate the sensor and transmit the current data back to unit for viewing. This enhancement provides a simple, fast and accurate method to obtain tire pressure readings while the tractors and trailers are in the yard, noted Jim Samocki, Doran’s gm.

"We were asked to provide a solution for obtaining tire pressure data when tractors and trailers were in the yard without having to use a monitor mounted in the cab,” he explained. “ Using our new sensor in combination with our SmartLink tool provides a fast and accurate way to get that valuable data for fleets and allows them to proactively address low tire pressures."

The Doran 360 is also being integrated with an on-board Windows embedded computer and mobile communications system for truck and trailer fleets. The seamless combination of Doran’s 360 device with DriverTech's Truck PC provides tire pressure data and low pressure warnings both in the cab of the truck and at the fleet's headquarters in real time.

"Having the capability to get real-time low tire pressure warnings in the cab and at a fleet's headquarters can be extremely valuable,” said Doran’s Samocki. “Ultimately, the reporting and analysis tools will help a fleet minimize their tire-related labor and repair expenses and extend the life of their tires."
