Xantrex Technology announced that its new RM1012 AL inverter/charger is available for Volvo VN and Volvo VT 880 heavy-duty trucks. According to the company, drivers and fleet operators are showing increased interest in inverter/chargers because they reduce fuel consumption and emissions caused by engine idling.

The RM1012 AL inverter/charger converts DC (battery) power into 120V AC power in the vehicle's cab so drivers can operate accessories like TVs and computers without idling their trucks. A unique advantage of the unit, Xantrex reported, is that it is fully weatherproof so it can be externally mounted.

“With high fuel prices, new widespread anti-idling rules and U.S. incentives for anti-idling equipment,” said John Wallace, Xantrex CEO, “we expect strong demand for auxiliary power units from truck owners. Our team designed a rugged … unit [the RM1012 AL] to meet demanding requirements.”
