TruckWeight has updated its SmartScale wireless onboard scale for trucks, tractors and trailers with mechanical spring suspensions.

The scale is for vehicles used in bulk distribution, agriculture, construction, forestry, containerized load, heavy hauling and other applications that require mechanical suspension use, TruckWeight said.

“With Smart Scale for mechanical suspensions, we’re extending the value of remote weight monitoring,” TruckWeight president Peter Panagapko said. “We now offer a simple, accurate, convenient way to monitor axle and gross vehicle weights on virtually any commercial vehicle.”

The scale utilizes an axle-mounted load sensor, a low-powered radio transmitter and a handheld wireless receiver. The sensor measures changes in the deflection of the axle, feeding data to the transmitter and eventually to the handheld receiver up to 500 ft. away. It is accurate within 1% compared to a certified scale, TruckWeight said.

Users can manage the weight of an untethered trailer as it is being loaded and the receiver can monitor both mechanical spring and air-ride sensors on the same vehicle.
