Goodyear announced an agreement with Con-way Truckload to be its principal supplier of wide-base truck tires.

Con-way Truckload operates 2,700 tractors and 8,000 trailers, 90% of which run on wide-base tires. The company noted that its entire tractor fleet runs wide-base tires.

Goodyear will supply Con-way with its G392 SSD drive and G394 SST trailer tires, both of which utilize Goodyear’s DuraSeal technology. The tires are EPA SmartWay-verified and come in size 445/50R22.5 in Load Range L.

“Goodyear provided a responsive, best overall cost solution, addressing both quality and durability,” said Randy Cornell, Con-way Truckload’s vice president of maintenance. “We’re pleased to be able to expand a business relationship that the Con-way organization and Goodyear have enjoyed for more than 10 years.”

Tires using the DuraSeal technology are flat-resistant, Goodyear said. DuraSeal is a gel-like inner liner that instantly seals tread punctures of up to 1/4-in.

“With Goodyear’s DuraSeal technology, which has built-in self-sealing capability, customers such as Con-way Truckload can run wide-base tires with confidence, while reaping the other benefits that are associated with use of wide-base tires in the long-haul truckload market, such as increased weight savings and improved fuel economy,” said Frank Payne, general manager, fleet solutions, Goodyear.
