Eaton Corp. recently held a training symposium for 20 individuals interested in the latest in hydraulics technology. The Eaton Hydraulics Instructor Symposium included representatives from Alexandria Technical College, The University of Dayton, and Alfred College as well as training executives and instructors from Eaton’s customers and distributors across North America.
It was held at Eaton’s Hydraulic Training Center in Maunee, OH. The event was designed to showcase the latest in both emerging hydraulic technologies and instructional methodologies.
“This was not a lecture,” said Tom Blansett, manager, training services for Eaton’s Hydraulics Group. “Each session encouraged attendees to engage in a dialogue with both the presenters and the other attendees. The goal was to fully understand the technology being presented while sharing insights into potential applications and exploring the instructional methods that might best be used to transfer the necessary knowledge to other students.”
The symposium covered a number of topics, including CANbus primers, systemic contamination control, thread identification, cavitation and aeration, principles of proportional valve operation, hose assembly, proportional valve amplifier tuning and troubleshooting, fixed and variable pump controls, causes and cures of leaks, plus an introduction to IEC 61131-3 compliant programming.
There was also a demonstration of HTS-2 technology and exposure for training materials available from Eaton’s e-commerce site, www.hydraulicsliteraturestore.com.
Blansett said attendees also showed interest in Eaton’s emerging electro-hydraulic technologies.
“The symposium was limited to 20 attendees so we could be sure to provide as much individual interaction as possible,” Blansett said. “Judging from the number of people on the waiting list it seems quite possible that this could turn into an annual event, and perhaps even a multi-session event.”
