INDIANAPOLIS. Ford announced it will be adding a new gasoline-powered version of its F-650 Super Duty to its medium-duty lineup for next year. It will be powered by Ford’s Triton V10 engine, rated 362 hp. at 4,750 rpm and 457 lbs.-ft. of torque at 3,250 rpm. It can also configured to run on CNG/LNG as well, said Todd Kaufman, F-Series marketing manager.

The gas F-650 will feature the “highly capable automatic transmission used in Super Duty models and will be available with or without a PTO,” said Kaufman. The truck itself will be offered as either a ProLoader—on 19.5-in wheels—or as a DockHeight model, on 22.5-in wheels. The gas truck will be built as a straight truck only and carry a maximum GVW/GCW of 30,000/33,000 lbs. and will only come with hydraulic brakes, he added.

According to Len DeLuca, director of commercial truck for Ford, the gas-powered truck’s low acquisition cost will appeal to a range of buyers from those requiring a single-axle dump truck in municipal service to aerial bucket users to daily rental fleets.

DeLuca said the order book will open on the new model in the fourth quarter with production slated to begin in the first quarter of 2012.
