A new variable-speed fan drive system with gearbox from Horton and Hub City provides more efficient cooling for rear-engine buses, motor homes and motor coaches with side-mounted cooling modules, Horton said.
The system includes the Horton VMaster or Stratis Viscous Fan Drive, WindMaster or WindShift fan, Di Controller and Hub City Right-Angel gearbox. It can be retrofitted to replace hydraulic and other mechanical systems.
According to Horton, the system provides increased system efficiency, lower operating costs and reduced complexity over hydraulic systems. The 12- or 24-volt fan and controller feature integral diagnostics and customized algorithms and are J1939 compatible for plug-and-play operation.
WindMaster and WindShift fans feature computer-optimized blade design; fan diameters ranging from 16 to 48 in., configurations between 6 and 13 blades; and standard pilots ranging from less than 1 in. to 7 in.
