The synthetic blend 76 Super Diesel motor oil has been upgraded to the new CJ-4 API classification designed for engines meeting the new 2007 EPA emissions requirements. According to ConocoPhillips Lubricants, its 76 Super Diesel is specifically formulated for light-truck diesel engines from Cummins, Duramax and International.

As a CJ-4 oil, the reclassified synthetic blend is now suitable for new diesel-powered vehicles equipped with the diesel particulate filters (DPFs) and diesel oxidation catalysts (DOCs) used to meet the new EPA emissions regulations. It is also compatible with the ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD) fuel also introduced as part of the new emissions standards.

Light truck applications are well served by the 76 Super Diesel formulation because the high viscosity index of its synthetic stocks help improve cold flow characteristics, while also providing higher thermal stability to improve resistance to oil oxidation and degradation, according to ConocoPhillips. It also includes additives to prevent corrosion and wear, and to reduce deposits in light-duty diesel engines, the company said.
