International Truck and Engine Corp. plans to develop 11- to 13-liter engines, available in the fall of 2007, for its Class 8 highway tractors and severe-service vehicles. They will be designed and manufactured as part of a strategic agreement between International and German truck maker MAN Nutzfahrzeuge, which enables the two OEMs “to collaborate on design, development, sourcing and manufacturing of components and systems for commercial trucks,” according to International

Jack Allen, president of International's Engine Group, characterized the engine project as “International's market leadership and technical expertise in delivering high performance diesel power plants while achieving U.S. EPA emissions standards, combined with MAN's expertise in big bore engines.”

International will continue to offer Cummins and Caterpillar engines in its heavy vehicles.
