A new severe service brake drum available from Motor Wheel Commercial Vehicle Systems for axle load ratings up to 26,000 lbs., weighs 25 lbs. less than typical heavy-duty, full-cast, drums, the company said.
The CentriFuse Plus long life/severe service brake drum is available in a 16.5 in. x 7 in. size and carries a 10-yr. written warranty. The advantage of the drums, according to Motor Wheel, a Precision Partners Inc. company, is lower maintenance costs and increased fuel economy due to their lighter weight. In fleet testing, Motor Wheel said the CentriFuse Plus lasted four times longer than full cast drums.
