Self-steer suspension/axle system introduced

March 22, 2012

LOUISVILLE, KY. Built with the company’s lightweight Fusion Beam technology, the new self-steering integrated suspension/axle system from SAF-Holland offers fleets the ability to increase payload and improve fuel economy. The company introduced the product this week at the Mid-America Trucking Show here.

The self-steer axle provides a wheel cut of 20 deg. or 25-to-30 deg, depending on model. SAF integral disc brake technology is standard, with drum brake configurations and other options planned, SAF-Holland said.

The axle suspension system is designed to turn easier while reducing drag and tire scrubbing, which leads to less frame damage, torsional stress and wear, the company said.

Various capacities are available in the series which include the SAF self-steer CBX23, SAF self-steer CBX25 and SAF self-steer CBX25/30. The CBX23 and CBX25 models deliver capacities of 23,000 lbs. and 25,000 lbs., respectively, while the CBX25/30 offers an additional 30,000 lbs. of load carrying capacity at creep speed (5 mph or less) and 25,000 lbs. of capacity for on-highway operation.

SAF-Holland also announced its proprietary Black Armour corrosion and rust prevention treatment will now be standard on its CBX air suspension axle systems, Holland Ultralite mechanical suspensions, and Holland landing gear.

Black Armour fights modern anti-icing agents, salts and chemicals, providing cost-effective corrosion protection, the company said. It is a waterborne, zinc-free coating with 72% fewer solvents than traditional coatings that emits fewer VOCs (volatile organic compounds).
