Michelin offers new X One retread, super regional tire

March 22, 2012

LOUISVILLE, KY.  A new pre-mold retreat for the Michelin X One wide single tire and a new drive tire for applications combining longer hauls with regional delivery characteristics have been introduced by Michelin Americas Truck Tires at the Mid-America Trucking Show.

The Michelin X One XDN2 pre-mold brings the lug-style traction tread of a new XDN2 to retread casings, joining the X One XTA and XTE rib-style pre-molds options for retreading the wide single tire. Like the original tire tread, it features full-depth sipes and the company’s three-dimensional Matrix sipes for high traction on dry and slippery surfaces while preserving tread-block stability for extending tread life, according to Michelin. It also preserves the original tread’s fuel economy and weight benefits, the company said.

Available only for retreading Michelin X One casings by authorized Michelin retreaders, the new XDN2 tread comes with a guarantee of at least 30% more mileage than competitive retreads and for a second retread on the same casing within three years.

The Michelin X Multi Energy D drive tire is a SmartWay verified tire for regional applications and what Michelin has identified as a new emerging application – super regional hauling.  The company identifies super regional operations as trucks operating about 100,000 mi. a year within a 500-mi. radius.  The application requires the fuel efficiency attributes of a line haul tire, but also faces the scrubbing and curbing conditions common to regional hauling, according to Michelin.

The new X Multi Energy D features Michelin’s dual energy compound tread, which it says allows it to combine a harder top layer of tread rubber for good fuel economy and wear characteristics, while offering a second bottom layer of rubber designed to keep casing temperatures down for lower rolling resistance and better casing life. It also uses the company’s Matrix siping technology.
