Old Dominion opens service centers as part of $90-120 million expansion project

July 9, 2012

Old Dominion Freight Line has expanded operations by opening new service centers in Pensacola, FL, and Orange, CA.

A 64-door facility was opened on a four-acre site at 640 W. Taft St. in Orange, CA. Strategically located to railroad heads, ports and highways, including Interstate 5 and California Highways 22, 55, 57 and 91, the center will help serve increased freight traffic in southern California, the company said.

The Orange facility will employ roughly 60 people and provide service to more than a dozen area cities, including Fullerton, Irvine, Laguna Beach and San Clemente.

“The Orange terminal is centrally located to our primary customer base, thereby increasing efficiency and productivity and providing an opportunity for continued growth in Orange County,” said Bob Foote, Old Dominion’s vice president for the western region. “Our new Orange service center was designed to bring us closer to our customers and provide faster response times for their shipping needs. The new facility will also alleviate congestion at our locations in Los Angeles and Long Beach.”

Old Dominion said its new 24-door Florida terminal will bring the company closer to its customers along the Florida panhandle and in eastern Alabama. The Pensacola terminal is located in a refurbished building on a three-acre site at 85 East Olive Rd. Old Dominian said the service center will allow the company to reduce its service times for customers in the region.

From the new Pensacola Service Center, Old Dominion will serve gulf cities in Alabama and Florida, including Gulf Shores in Alabama and Gulf Breeze, Destin and Fort Walton Beach in Florida.

“This new service center brings us closer to our customers,” said Jason “Drew” Glass, the service center’s manager. “Without a physical presence in Pensacola, Old Dominion was limited in our flexibility to service customers’ needs. But, by being in the heart of the market, we can now offer earlier deliveries and better respond to our customers, helping them keep their promises for their customers.”

The additions are part of a $90-120 million investment Old Dominion is committing to real estate purchases and expansion projects nationwide in 2012. Already this year, the company has opened service centers in Duluth and Benson, MN.

It has also expanded its presence in Corpus Christi, TX, and Erie, PA, in addition to opening drayage facilities in Oakland, CA, and Seattle, WA.

Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is less-than-truckload carrier providing regional, inter-regional and national service. In addition to its core LTL services, the company offers logistics services including ground and air expedited transportation, supply chain consulting, transportation management, truckload brokerage, container delivery, warehousing and consumer household moving services.
