Hino Trucks plans to roll out a new cabover Class 5 medium-duty truck platform this fall, which can be spec’d with either a diesel-only or diesel-electric hybrid powertrain.

The new 195 model Hino cabover – as well as the 195h model diesel-electric hybrid powered configuration – feature a 19,500-lb. gross vehicle weight (GVW) rating and a five-liter J05E series diesel engine that cranks out 210 hp and 440 ft-lbs. of torque.

The OEM added that the diesel engines powerin its 195 and 195h model meet EPA 2010 emission regulations via a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) exhaust emission aftertreatment system.

Glenn Ellis, Hino’s vp-marketing, said the first 195 model trucks should begin arriving at Hino dealerships in August. However, due to a limited supply of the diesel-electric hybrid configurations, the 195h model will initially only be delivered to California dealerships starting in September. As more become available in early 2013, a staged roll out of the 195h for the remaining U.S. markets will be implemented, he added.

Both Hino’s 195 and 195h models feature a 33-inch frame rail width, a 56,900-pounds-per-square-inch (psi) frame, and a standard center mounted rear fuel tank. The interior of the cab provide room for drivers up to 6 ft. 6 in. tall, seating for three and a variety of organizational storage options.

“The launch of this new cabover product line offers Hino dealers an opportunity to reach new customers,” noted Ellis. “Over the past several months, the management team at Hino has monitored the truck market rebound, the U.S. economy, and foreign currency exchange rates to develop a plan that supported our customers and dealers in the short term, while sustaining a business model for the long term. With these factors in mind, the introduction of our cabover truck is on track.”
