Sept. 14, 2012

The 500,000th truck to roll off the assembly at Freightliner Trucks’ Mount Holly, NC, manufacturing plant was acknowledged this week with a ceremony by Freightliner officials as well as officials from Duke Energy, which will take delivery of the vehicle.

A Business Class M2 106 with utility body was the milestone truck.

“Reaching the 500,000-truck mark is a significant milestone that couldn’t have been reached without the employees’ diligent efforts to meet and exceed customer expectations,” said Mark Hernandez, plant manager for the Mount Holly Truck Manufacturing Plant. “The team at the Mount Holly Truck Plant shares Freightliner’s long-term pledge to building quality products that reflect our commitment to customer satisfaction.”

Opening in 1979, the Mount Holly plant has 630,000 sq. ft. of floor space and approximately 1,550 employees, Freightliner said. The M2 line, including hybrid and natural gas models, has been built there since 2002. Freightliner’s Severe Duty product as well as the 114SD and 108SD are also manufactured at the plant.
