C.R. England signs deal with Thermo King for new Precedent series units

Dec. 5, 2012

Refrigerated carrier C.R. England has signed a three-year agreement with Thermo King to implement that company’s Precedent trailer platform in all new trailer units.

The Precedent is a trailer temperature control platform. According to Thermo King, the system delivers double-digit fuel savings and lower lifecycle costs. The Precedent line, which includes three different configurations, was unveiled in June.

C.R. England will implement the S-600 Precedent, which is a greater-than-25 hp. single temperature unit. The company will use the S-600 in both traditional over-the-road applications and, with the addition of specific option packages, in intermodal and rail applications.

“The Precedent is our refrigeration unit of choice to meet the new more stringent emission standards,” said Corey England, executive vice president, C.R. England. “It complements our sustainability initiatives and we love that it is evergreen from the start.  Besides the sustainability benefits, the dramatic fuel savings, reduced maintenance costs, and possibility for trade cycle adjustment, helped seal the deal.”

According to Thermo King, the Precedent platform features a diesel direct electric (DDE) architecture to deliver optimum efficiencies such as tighter temperature control and double-digit fuel savings in real-world applications.

“C.R. England remains the world’s largest refrigerated carrier because they carefully manage their business, so we’re especially pleased that they selected the Precedent as the best energy and operationally efficient solution for their needs,” said Doug Lenz, director of product management and marketing, Thermo King.

The Precedent line also includes the S-700 which is a greater-than-25 hp. high capacity single temperature unit with an evergreen engine for use in California and the C-600, which is a less-than-25 hp. single-temperature unit with an allowed useful life in California of seven years.
