Video addresses relocation of pump mounted driver on GM diesels

April 9, 2013

Standard Motor Products (SMP) has released a new video that addresses the relocation of the original pump mounted driver (PMD) on General Motors 6.5L diesel engines.

The TechSmart Tech Session video features the TechSmart PMD Relocation Kit. It explains why the original PMD module location can lead to an excessive amount of heat soak that can destroy internal components over time. The TechSmart kit allows technicians to relocate the PMD anywhere they choose in the engine bay, the company said. By selecting an optimum location for the new module, exposure to the harsh engine operating temperatures can be minimized, improving the PMD performance and extending its service life.

“Here’s another TechSmart solution,” said Phil Hutchens, senior director of marketing, SMP. “We include everything in our kit that technicians need to solve this problem, such as a brand new PMD module, relocation harness, aluminum heat sink, mounting hardware, and a no. 9 resistor for exceptional performance.”

TechSmart also offers a version of the relocation kit without the PMD module (S39002) for technicians who would like to take advantage of the TechSmart relocation solution, but still have a working PMD module.

The Tech Session video series is available for viewing on the TechSmart YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/TechSmartParts, as well as on www.facebook.com/TechSmartParts by clicking on the video channel button.
