Cummins Power South (CPS) has started a comprehensive diesel engine training program. The three-month graduate program, entitled CPSUniversity (CPSU), is designed to provide rigorous in-depth training on Cummins heavy-duty and mid-range engines and is currently being offered to diesel engine technology students who have completed a qualified diesel technology program.
The 12-week diesel engine program, based at the state-of-the-art CPS Technical Service Training Center in Tampa, FL, is led by Bill Sigmund, director of technical support - engine business, and John Black, training manager. The program, whose curriculum is developed and taught by CPSU training instructor, Kevin Parson, includes the following elements:

Only the top graduates of approved VoTech diesel technology programs or those with related work experience, including military training, are considered

Upon graduation, students offered employment agree to a three year commitment with Cummins Power South and may specify location preferences within the CPS footprint

Upon completion, graduates are qualified on Cummins mid-range and heavy duty automotive products (1991-2010). In addition, students receive broader training on all the systems used at Cummins Power South, including JSA Safety, Cummins Insite, Cummins Expert Diagnostic System (EDS), Cummins QuickServe Online and Guardian Inspection.
The first CPSU class graduated in April. The next training session begins May 20 and is comprised of eight registered students with three alternates on a waiting list.
