Special ‘coil hauler’ platform trailer

Sept. 9, 2013

Transcraft Corp. has released a new specialty flatbed trailer designed to make hauling coils easier. The coil hauler model uses a bolt-together cradle system for enhanced reliability and longevity.

The trailer’s rubber-lined cradle system, with a total payload capacity of 90,000 lbs., makes it capable of transporting coils up to 80 in. wide while protecting freight from edge damage that can occur with more traditional trailer designs, Transcraft, a subsidiary of Wabash National Corp., said. In addition, with a natural, low center of gravity, the coil hauler makes for a smoother ride and may minimize the chance of trailer rollover.

“Transcraft has long been known as a leading manufacturer of flatbed and drop-deck trailers,” said Rick Klein, general manager, Transcraft. “The design of our new coil hauler demonstrates the same commitment to innovation and continuous improvement that our customers expect from Transcraft.”

Other design enhancements include a canopy and removable bulkhead. The canopy design, constructed of Wabash National’s DuraPlate composite material, protects freight while reducing loading and unloading times by approximately 30 minutes, the company said. The removable bulkhead and optional load bars provide backhaul versatility, allowing customers to haul multiple types of freight with a single piece of equipment.
