Alcoa has new alloy for wheels

ORLANDO, FL. Alcoa (NYSE: AA) says it has developed the first new aluminum alloy for forged truck wheels since it introduced its 6061 alloy 45 years ago. The new MagnaForce alloy is lighter and over 16% stronger than 6061, according to the company.

Announced at the American Trucking Assns.’ annual management conference, MagnaForce will make its first commercial appearance as a new Alcoa forged aluminum truck wheel early next year.  The new wheels will be introduced at the Mid-America Trucking Show I n Louisville next March, according to Eric Murphy, VP of Alcoa Wheel and Transportation Products.
