More control added to idle reduction solution

Oct. 24, 2013

ORLANDO, FL. New features that enable hooking up the system to more vehicles and provide more control to eliminate unnecessary idling are among the changes made to the Idle Smart idle reduction solution.

Idle Smart made the announcements this week at the American Trucking Assns. Management Conference & Exhibition.

“As part of our ongoing effort to continually improve our fuel saving solution for fleets and drivers, we have developed new features that streamline installation and further eliminate unnecessary idling,” said Jeff Lynch, CEO at Idle Smart. “Many of our latest enhancements are the result of customer feedback. Those fleets and drivers are already using Idle Smart to realize a reduction in idling of up to 70 percent as well as a significant reduction in engine wear.”

New features of Idle Smart designed to enable the solution to be implemented more easily on every 2005 and newer truck make and model include a jumper for automatic transmissions that saves time during installation, a redesigned hood switch and a temperature sensor that standardizes the location on every truck.

Additionally, Idle Smart fuel optimization software now utilizes a new algorithm that determines when to automatically turn off the Idle Smart unit, saving unnecessary idling if the system is left on when the driver is not in the vehicle for extended periods of time.

According the company, the system continuously monitors interior and ambient temperatures and efficiently starts and stops a vehicle to maintain desired cabin temperature and reduce fuel consumption. Fully customizable and password protected, the system’s programming temperature and timer settings are easily set with the unit’s intuitive display and menu driven format.

Idle Smart remembers user settings and will operate automatically in temperature mode. In timer mode, Idle Smart runs the engine for a programmed amount of time when the cabin temperature is outside the pre-set comfort range.
