Continental makes retread available for wide base tire

Dec. 18, 2013

Continental Tire announced that it is now offering a ContiTread retread for its HTL1 wide single truck tire. The company also said the EPA SmartWay Transport Partnership program has verified a drive tire.

The Continental HTL1 (heavy trailer long haul) ContiTread matches the tread pattern of the new tire, the company said, with 13/32 in. of tread depth and a fuel-efficient rib pattern.

“We are very happy to end the 2013 year on a high note for our ContiTread fleets and licensed dealers by offering another new premium retread product,” said John Barnes, ContiLifeCycle manager for the Americas. “Today we are announcing that our HTL1 wide single truck tire is now available as a ContiTread retread. In 400 millimeter tread width, the HTL1 can be retreaded for fleets who operate wide single drive or trailer tires in sizes 445/50R22.5 and 455/55R22.5, and is an excellent solution for this special market concerned with weight and fuel savings.”

The HTL1 ContiTread will be submitted to SmartWay for verification, Barnes said.

Continental Tire the Americas’ Commercial Vehicle Tire group also announced it has recently received low rolling resistance retread technology verification for the HDR2 Eco Plus, a fuel efficient drive tire which was verified a short time ago by SmartWay for use in drive positions on class 8, line-haul tractors.

The HDR2 Eco Plus is now the 21st in a line of Continental new and retreaded truck tire products that are currently listed as verified by SmartWay.

The HDR2 (heavy drive regional) Eco Plus features 30/32 in. tread depth, an open shoulder design for excellent traction without sacrificing even wear, and gives approximately 20 percent less rolling resistance in regional applications than the HDR2. The tire is available in sizes 11R22.5 and 295/75R22.5.

“It’s a great way to end 2013 by offering our customers more choices in new truck tires and retreads than ever before,” said Paul Williams, executive vice president for truck tires, the Americas. “Our HTL1 ContiTread and HDR2 Eco Plus drive tire are a nice addition to your operations for the holiday season and will help lower your overall driving costs for 2014 and beyond.”
