Marmon Highway Technologies launches division dedicated to intermodal

Jan. 16, 2014

Marmon Highway Technologies (MHT) has launched a new stand-alone division within its Fontaine Engineered Products company. The division, Fontaine Intermodal, will design and produce products for the intermodal transportation market.

Fontaine Intermodal operates a dedicated facility in Jasper, AL, where it produces the Fontaine Evolution Intermodal flat deck product.

“This significant investment is representative of MHT’s long-standing strategy of identifying new, exciting markets and developing sharply-focused, dedicated businesses to serve key customers in those markets,” said Kelly Dier, president of MHT. “With the introduction of the unique, customer-driven design of the Evolution Intermodal flat deck product, Fontaine will continue to be the industry leader in this market.”

The Evolution Intermodal features a proprietary friction stir welded floor and side rail technology that helps make the chassis significantly lighter and stronger than any other intermodal deck on the market, the company said.

The chassis also includes a manual arm operation that requires no truck interface for operation. It also is virtually maintenance free, with no electrical system or electrical controls, motors, high pressure hoses, cylinders, valves or pumps.
