Meritor introduces universal knuckle, additional features for support website

March 11, 2014

Meritor has unveiled a new universal knuckle for customers running Meritor non-drive, front-steer axles, giving global customers a new solution to outfit drum or air disc brakes.

“We are seeing a significant increase in acceptance of air disc brakes in North America, and the redesign of our existing front steer axle with the universal knuckle will accommodate either brake type globally,” said Ken Hogan, general manager, North America axles. “Our EX+ air disc brake, which can now be paired with our universal knuckle front steer axle, is a great example of a brake option that has less maintenance than drum brakes and meets the reduced stopping distance regulation.”

The company also announced additional features on its training and support website, the Meritor BullPen.

The universal knuckle front steer axle has one service part instead of the previous two knuckles on each axle, the company explained. Service parts are no longer dependent on brake types and simplifies inventory needed.

Meritor noted that the new component offers customers higher payload capacity, which increases productivity, and eliminates the need for a heavier and more expensive 13,200-lb. axle.

The Meritor BullPen now includes improved registration, additional training, course monitoring tools and social media integration for dealers, fleets and garages. The changes go into effect on Monday, March 10.

The BullPen offers more than 1,000 documents including product presentations, sales and service literature, product videos and photos, service bulletins and parts books, 24/7 web-based training, instructor-led training, direct access to dealer sales incentives via Meritor on the Move (MOTM), Meritor Mobile application link for easy downloading and Meritor and industry news

“Our newly updated site is a reflection of our continued focus on customer support,” said James Taylor, general manager, DriveForce for Meritor. “Tools like the Meritor BullPen allow our customers to stay connected with Meritor on and off the road.”
