Laboratory offers fuel analysis

Sept. 8, 2014

Research Laboratories is offering fleets distillate fuel analyses for all grades of fuel, including #2 diesel. The company will then offer possible solutions for any problems, including winter fuel performance, delivered fuel quality issues and operability difficulties, it said.

The company now offers “cold room” fuel flow testing down to minus-30 deg. F. in-house using a customer’s fuel and their OEM fuel filters. Cold room analysis pinpoints specific temperatures at which the fuel will restrict flow through the fuel filters, causing diesel equipment issues, Research Laboratories explained.

In addition, the company utilizes cloud point, pour point and cold filter plug point determinations and a “wax dispersant fuel separation test.” Fleets could also purchase a “complete winter diesel fuel test package” for a broad spectrum analysis for cold weather operability.

Other testing services include HFRR lubricity, microbial contamination counts, ultra low sulfur percentage, distillation, particulate, cetane index, API gravity, viscosity, flash point, and conductivity.

For diesel fuel contamination, gas chromatograph determinations are available to “finger-print” the fuel.

Same-day service is available when required along with quick testing turn-around times, the lab said.
