The commercial arm of Ram Trucks – a division of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles LLC – recently won a U.S. Postal Service contract to supply some 9,113 new 2016 model Ram ProMaster 2500 cargo vans; an order independent of the agency’s long-term acquisition program designed to update its over 190,000 unit delivery vehicle fleet.

“While each and every one of our fleet customers is important to us, none command our attention like USPS,” said Tim Kuniskis, FCA’s VP of fleet operations for North America, in a statement. “I can’t think of another more mission-critical service than literally delivering the goods of our nation on a daily basis.”

He noted that the 2016 model ProMaster vans ordered by the Postal Service will come equipped with a gasoline-fueled 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine rated at 280-horsepower output with peak torque of 260 lb.-ft. and mated to six-speed automatic transmission.

Ram added that those vans will also feature a front-wheel-drive system that will enhance the vehicle’s all-weather operation and will also be specifically customized for national mail and package delivery service.
