According to data tracked by ACT Research, used Class 8 truck demand is slowing as sales back in December flattened out.

“December unit sales rebounded from November, but were flat year-to-date relative to the same period in 2014,” noted Steve Tam, ACT’s VP-commercial vehicle sector, in a statement.

“Age trends remained flat month-over-month in December, while pricing fell 1% month-over-month,” he said. “Year-over-year, prices were down 6% compared to last December.”

Tam added that dealers report “slowing” demand for used trucks, which means that dealers will be reducing prices to move their used truck inventories.

ACT’s data also indicated average mileage of used Class 8 trucks increased slightly month-over-month in December, but remained down by 6% year-over-year.

For all of 2015, used Class 8 pricing and age were flat compared to 2014, the firm said, while mileage declined 8%.
