Paccar Corp. – the parent company of Peterbilt Motors Co. and Kenworth Truck Co. – announced that it’s started an engineering program with Allison Transmission to offer the fully automatic Allison Transmission TC10 heavy-duty gearbox in several long-haul tractor models.

Those models include the Kenworth T680 and T880 and Peterbilt Model 567 and Model 579, spec’d with either Paccar MX or Cummins engines.

Offered with 10 forward speeds and two reverse gears, Allison said its TC10 uses a patented torque converter and twin counter shaft design optimized for tractor configurations to boost both performance and fuel economy with uninterrupted power shifting in all ranges.

The company noted that a five-year or 750,000 mile transmission system warranty will be included with TC10 gearboxes spec’d for those Kenworth and Peterbilt tractor models.
