Eaton Cummins Automated Transmission Technologies launched a new heavy-duty transmission for vocational trucks: the Endurant HD V automated transmission.

The Endurant HD V is the latest edition of the venture’s Endurant family of transmissions. The 12-speed transmission is designed for vocational truck applications with maximum gross combination weight ratings of 70,000 lb. (32,000 kg) using 9-liter, 11-liter, and the upcoming Cummins X10 engines. Maximum engine torque is 1,700 lb.-ft. (2300 Nm).

Among the Endurant HD transmission family, the HD V is particularly suited for vocational operations. Its launch and shift points are tuned for varying terrain conditions such as unmaintained roads, soft soil, or other difficult terrain.

The new transmission is loaded with features for specific vocational conditions. An extreme duty clutch allows for improved low-speed maneuvering; a rock-free feature helps get the vehicle unstuck in mud or sand; an off-highway mode automatically tunes the transmission for optimum performance in changing soil conditions; and dual power takeoff openings can power hydraulic systems. The transmission helps vocational trucks operate on grades/slopes with a hill start aid feature, smooth shifting, and gear selection logic.

The Endurant HD V has a new secondary configuration mode, which allows drivers to toggle between two performance goals to tailor the equipment’s operations according to load or terrain.

The transmission has a 250,000-mile lube change interval. It supports Eaton’s IntelliConnect remote diagnostics to reduce downtime and quickly diagnose issues.

“The new Endurant HD V is the ideal solution for our customers looking for a reliable and capable vocational truck transmission,” said Nathan Schuler, executive director, sales, Eaton Cummins Automated Transmission Technologies. “Features such as extreme duty clutches, off-highway performance goals, rock-free mode, and secondary configuration set it apart from the competition.”

Eaton and Cummins created Eaton Cummins Automated Transmission Technologies as a 50/50 joint venture in 2017. The global joint venture produces heavy-duty automated transmissions for commercial vehicles.
