JBPCO acquires ambulance manufacturer Demers Braun Crestline Medix

June 24, 2025
Parent company of work truck upfitting giants Reading Truck and Morgan Olson expands into the emergency vehicle market with the addition of one of North America’s largest ambulance manufacturers.

J.B. Poindexter & Co., a North American commercial vehicle manufacturing conglomerate, recently acquired Demers Braun Crestline Medix, one of North America’s largest ambulance manufacturers. The acquisition aligns with the company’s 40th anniversary.

Headquartered in Beloeil, Quebec, Canada, DBCM has a strong presence across the U.S. and Canadian markets. Furthermore, the brand has delivered more than 70,000 units to more than 40 countries and employs more than 1,500 team members across its operations.

“Our acquisition of DBCM aligns with JBPCO’s long-term vision—building a platform of industry-leading companies with a shared commitment to quality, innovation, and customer service,” John Poindexter, JBPCO CEO and chairman, said in a press release.

The acquisition comes during a time of uncertainty for the trucking industry. Poindexter told FleetOwner back in March that making moves during uncertain times is one thing that makes JBPCO successful.

“We’re taking this colossal risk by an extremely expensive company of that size in such uncertain times, who knows what can happen this year, economically and uniquely, no one knows so—big risk,” he told FleetOwner, teasing the then-upcoming acquisition. “But we are risk takers here.”

Demers recently launched its 11th-generation ambulance platform, offering paramedic-centric features designed by paramedics. As part of JBPCO, DBCM will continue to operate with brand autonomy while benefiting from expanded resources, shared capabilities, and a culture that values team member contributions.

JBPCO and DBCM are “united by a mission to improve lives, one relationship and one vehicle at a time—and this partnership ensures we can continue doing just that, with even greater scale and support,” Alain Brunelle, DBCM CEO, said in the release.

JBPCO said that this acquisition will boost its total revenue to $3 billion and round out its work vehicle offerings—from last-mile delivery vans to work trucks to emergency response vehicles.

“As JBPCO celebrates its 40th anniversary, and each of the DBCM brands celebrates decades of dedication in the emergency vehicle industry, we are proud to bring together more than 500 years of combined manufacturing excellence across our portfolio of companies,” Poindexter said. “DBCM has built a solid foundation, and we look forward to investing in its future, supporting the team, enhancing the products, and unlocking new opportunities for growth.”
