Traveling in and around the Inner Harbor of Baltimore, Maryland (which is also known as "Charm City") offers an object lesson in the importance of transportation to urban life, both on the land and on the water. Settled in 1661, Baltimore is named after Lord Baltimore George Calvert (1579 – 1631), though his name originally was bequeathed to the city's port, which was established in 1706.
