2026 FleetOwner 500: Top for-hire package/LTL fleets

The 2026 package/LTL Top 10 list shows strong continuity, with FedEx and UPS maintaining leadership positions.

In February, FleetOwner released its 2026 FleetOwner 500: For-Hire list, which ranks the largest motor carrier and commercial fleet operations in the U.S. This year, the for-hire list saw shake-ups in all but the top five spots for the second year in a row.

In addition to creating this list, FleetOwner also breaks these fleets down into categories, either by equipment or by the fleet's main cargo type or segment. This media gallery will focus on package/LTL fleets; upcoming FleetOwner Top 10 lists will rank fleets by other subsections.

Less-than-truckload shipments are like they sound—one batch of cargo from one source isn’t large enough to take up a whole trailer, so the trailer is instead filled with cargo from multiple sources. The LTL sector continues to evolve as shippers demand higher frequency and greater flexibility in the mid-mile. The truck will make multiple stops to pick up and deliver cargo, or the cargo is separated at a distribution center and loaded onto smaller vehicles for delivery.

Courier (package) fleets include well-known carrier brands such as FedEx and UPS. It can also include private fleets such as Amazon and grocers who deliver their goods directly to consumers. More recently, courier delivery has sometimes been included within last-mile classifications that bring a delivery to its final destination, such as a front porch or mailbox.

Compared to 2025, the top eight spots on this list are unchanged. However, ArcBest moved from No. 10 to No. 9. Central Transport entered this list at No. 10.
